2021 Huddle Highlights

With less than a month left of 2021, we’re feeling a little bit like this about 2022’s imminent arrival:

And while the second year of the pandemic didn’t feel nearly as uncertain as the first, there were still plenty of challenges, including bouncing between in-person and virtual public involvement events and supply chain issues impacting construction. Huddle is proud to have worked tirelessly on behalf of our clients to make sure work was done efficiently and continuing to be nimble as conditions changed. We’re celebrating all the great work of 2021 with these highlights:

Huddle was awarded the Outstanding Business Partner Award from the Alaska Recreation and Park Association for our work with the City of Valdez Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department on the Meals Hill Master Plan. This master plan and site plan design will guide development for Valdez’s newest and largest local park over the next few years. Huddle won an Honor Award in Planning and Analysis from the Alaska Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) in its annual Design Awards for the Meals Hill Master Plan as well!

Melissa Shaginoff and Aaron Leggett were featured in the Washington Post in its “We’re Still Here” article about Indigenous people who are working to increase awareness of Indigenous communities and lands. Melissa and Aaron were recognized for their work on the Indigenous Place Names project, installing signage and an art piece in important Dena’ina locations in parks and trails.

Also in ASLA Design Awards, Huddle was awarded a Merit Award for the Indigenous Place Names project for Urban Design and an Honor Award in Communication for the Community Inclusive Play and Trails Maps! The Inclusive Play Map was updated in 2021 with the newest Anchorage Parks and Recreation playgrounds! Make sure to get the latest edition.

Thanks to some in-person events returning, Huddle was also able to support some causes and organizations near and dear to our heart! We sponsored Bike Anchorage’s inaugural Bike the Moose Ride in August and were a sponsor of the Anchorage Park Foundation’s virtual Moose Loop Race in October. Anchorage Community Land Trust and Catholic Social Services hosted an end of season Harvest Party for Grow North Farm, and we couldn’t help but celebrate another successful season of providing local produce grown right in Mountain View by pitching in to buy dinner for the first 100 Harvest Party attendees.

In case you missed it: Huddle moved into a new office space this summer – the historic Leopold David House in Downtown Anchorage. We’re looking forward to welcoming more clients into this space in 2022.

We’d love to hear about your 2021 – what lifted you up? What are you proud of? Let us know in the comments.
